Obasa’s plenary with 4 members is simply a show of shame, says Meranda

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt Honourable Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, has described the holding of plenary with only four lawmakers out of 40 members by former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa as a show of shame.

Rt Honourable Meranda spoke on Friday, 28 February, 2025 after attending the court session on the case instituted by former Speaker challenging his removal.

On Thursday, 27 February, 2025, Obasa came into the Assembly for the first time after his removal.

He stated that he is still the Speaker and held plenary session with four lawmakers, with no staff and Olalekan Onafeko who is challenging his suspension as Clerk of the Assembly in court.

Reacting to the incident, Rt Honourable Meranda not only described Obasa’s action as a show of shame but also someone acting film.

According to her, “for me, that was a show of shame. In our job, we have number that forms quorum and someone sitting with four members is just doing theatre.”

Rt Honourable Meranda while confirming that some of her security details have been restored stated that as at the morning of Friday, February 28, 2025, she only had about four policemen whereas she used to have about 12 in her convoy, four DSS operatives and two anti-bomb officers.
