Scrapping TETFUND will be disastrous to Nigeria’s tertiary institutions – Kogi Provost

The Provost, Kogi State College of Education, Ankpa, Dr Paul Femi Fashagba has warned the Federal Government to jettison the idea of scrapping Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFUND.Fashagba gave the warning when he officially took over as the Provost on Monday. He argued that most higher institutions in the country could not function efficiently without TETFUND interventions, stressing that scrapping it would devastate public higher institutions.

“The children of the poor will be the one to suffer this most because their parents won’t be able to afford private schools, especially when they couldn’t get what they desire in public schools.“The Government should please reverse this proposed policy for the interest of the general public.”

Fashagba seized the opportunity to call on the National Assembly, the state governors, the students’ union organizations and the Nigeria Labour organizations to act fast to rescue the education sector in the public interest. His words, “Scrapping TETFUND will amount to committing suicide in Nigeria’s Tertiary institutions, which all of us must kick against.“I am not against reforms in our Tertiary institutions. But if we all x-ray what TETFUND has done over the years, their services are still needed.
