Music executive Ubi Franklin has refuted allegations that he stole a luxury wristwatch during Afrobeats star Davido’s wedding in Miami over the weekend, a claim Davido himself dismissed with a fiery social media post.
Rumours of the alleged theft surfaced on social media on Wednesday after a blog report linked Franklin to the missing item.
Addressing the matter on X (formerly Twitter), Franklin described the allegations as “completely false and misleading.”
“I am currently aware of the recent circulation on social media linking my name to an alleged theft. I wish to make it clear that these allegations are completely false and misleading,” he wrote.
Franklin explained that a man named Benny had approached him in Miami to sell a wristwatch, but he declined after reviewing its history.
Later, during the wedding’s church service, Benny’s brother delivered another wristwatch, which Franklin said he purchased and paid for in full.
“Given the busy circumstances surrounding the wedding, I was in possession of both wristwatches and wore the one he sent to me through his brother,” he said, adding that he left Miami immediately afterwards for his sister’s funeral.
He insisted, “I am not a thief. I have never stolen from anyone in my life… Benny himself debunked the claim earlier today.”
Shortly after Franklin’s statement, Davido reposted it with a blunt remark: “You owe nobody any explanation… fools,” seemingly aimed at those fuelling the rumour.
Franklin described the episode as a “difficult and sensitive time” for him and his family, stressing that this would be his final comment on the matter.
