On Friday, May 22, Retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Adolphus Karibi-Whyte was announced dead.

However, not many know so much about the legal luminary, who turned 88 about 111 days ago in Lagos, Nigeria.

Here are 1o facts about late Justice Karibi-Whyte nobody will tell you.

1. He was born on Alphonsus Godwin Karibi-Whyte on January 29, 1932 in Abonnema, a larger town in the Kalabari Kingdom in Rivers State which was founded in 1882.

2. He got married to his heartthrob, Faith Asrame Kelly Bob-Manuel in 1962, and together they bore 4 sons and 3 daughters.

3. He began his education at the St. Barnabas School in Imo state between 1938 and 1943. He proceeded to St Michael’s School in Aba between 1944 and 1945 after which he attended the Kalahari National College in Buguma between 1946 and 1950. He also attended the University of Hull and the University of London both in England before going to the Council of Legal Education, Inns of Court, Middle Temple England.

4. Between 1971 and 1976, he headed the Law Revision, Reporting, and Research department in the Rivers State Ministry of Justice.

5. He was a judge in the Federal Revenue Court between 1976 and 1980.

6. He became a justice in the Court of Appeal in 1980 and moved on to become a justice of the Supreme court of Nigeria in 1984 after which he retired in 2002.

7. Justice Karibi-Whyte retired as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria on his 70th birthday.

8. He published three widely accepted legal books.

9. He enjoys playing Table Tennis when he’s not reading.

10. He was a judge at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, now known as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia.
