Nollywood’s ‘Elevator Baby’ gets a Bollywood remake

Filmmaker and Chief Executive Officer of Anthills studio, Niyi Akinmolayan, has made history with his 2019 Nollywood hit, ‘Elevator Baby,’ getting a Bollywood remake in India.

‘The Set Up’ director narrated how an Indian studio reached out to him in order to get the filming rights for a remake of the film which debuted on the big screens with decent weekend earnings of 4.5 million Naira.

The filmmaker said he had gotten a random call from an Indian-based filmmaker inquiring about the film after it had remained top ten movies in cinemas for eight weeks after its release.

“I got a call from a film producer in India, he had fallen in love with the story and wanted to buy the rights for a remake. I thought it was a joke o…until dollars entered my akant (account)! They made a really beautiful Indian version and I can’t wait to watch it. Elevator Baby was a labour of love and was so much hard work,” Akinmolayan announced.

The remake of the Nollywood hit in Bollywood was given as ‘Thank you, brother.’

Directed by Akay Mason, ‘Elevator Baby’ got the protagonists, Timini Egbuson and Toyin Abraham their first AMVCAs respectively. Abraham won the category for ‘Best Actress in a Drama (Movie/TV Series)’ while Egbuson won the category for Best Actor in a drama at the 2020 AMVCAs.

The film went on to gross over N23.2 million after a long run in the cinema.
