Fani-Kayode debunks arrest by anti-graft agency

Former Aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has denied being arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Fani-Kayode said contrary to reports that he was apprehended and taken to the Lagos zonal office of the EFCC, he “flew down” to Lagos following his invitation by the anti-graft agency.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday night, the former minister wrote: “Just arrived at the George Hotel for dinner. I was never arrested by the EFCC. I was invited and I flew down to Lagos to see them.

“I arrived in their office at 2.00pm and left at 8.30pm. I was granted bail on self recognition. They were very polite and professional. Thanks be to God.”

Earlier reports had said that Fani-Kayode, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), was picked up by EFCC operatives for alleged manipulation and forgery of a medical report to enable him evade his trial by the anti-graft agency.

He was epected to answer questions on possible forgery of hospital documents to hoodwink the court handling the case against him on money-laundering allegations with a view to stall hearing.

The former presidential aide is standing trial before the Lagos State Federal High Court for alleged N4.6 billion fraud.
