COVID-19: UAE lifts ban on arrivals from Nigeria, other African countries

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced the resumption of arrivals from Nigeria and some other African countries, effective January 29, 2022.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced the resumption of arrivals from Nigeria and some other African countries, effective January 29, 2022.

ALLNEWS recalls that the UAE had in December suspended inbound passenger flights from Nigeria and some other African countries as part of efforts to combat the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

However, a travel update announced on Wednesday by the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA), lifted the ban placed on travellers from Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Congo, South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

The UAE aviation authorities, as part of entry procedures to the country, however directed passengers from Uganda, Ghana and Rwanda to present a negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate with a QR code for a test conducted at an approved facility no more than 48 hours before departure.

They are also required to present a negative COVID-19 rapid test certificate with a QR code for a test conducted at the departure airport within 6 hours before departure, and conduct a PCR test upon arrival.
