Afenifere demands improved security as Eniola Ojajuni regains freedom from abductors

The Coalition of Yoruba Youth Leaders has implored the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts in protecting Nigerians, citing the recent abduction and release of Afenifere Youth Council President, Prince Eniola Ojajuni.

The coalition, expressing concern over the rampant kidnapping in the country, stated that such measures would ensure Nigerians do not have to endure the kind of trauma Ojajuni experienced.

Recall that Ojajuni, who was abducted by gunmen on 17 February while travelling from Lagos to Abuja, had, in a video, appealed to Nigerians to donate money to secure his release from the kidnappers’ den.

His captors, who had demanded a ransom of N100m, reportedly shot him in the buttocks.

However, a video later showed the Afenifere Youth leader confirming his release by his abductors in Ibillo, Edo State, on Saturday evening.

A statement by the National Secretary of the coalition, Akeem Adeleke, following Ojajuni’s release, also emphasised the need for vigilance and safety among Nigerians.

The statement read in part: “With profound relief and immense gratitude, the Coalition of Yoruba Youth Leaders joyfully announces the safe release of our esteemed compatriot, the Afenifere Youth Council President, Prince Eniola Joseph Ojajuni, from the clutches of his abductors.

“This incident is a stark reminder of the perils that threaten our nation’s security and reinforces the urgent need for decisive action against the scourge of kidnapping.

“We implore the authorities to redouble their efforts in safeguarding the lives of every Nigerian, ensuring that no family, community, or movement has to endure such trauma again.

“As we collectively rejoice, let this moment serve as a rallying call for unwavering solidarity, proactive vigilance, and steadfast commitment to justice and freedom. The Coalition of Yoruba Youth Leaders remains resolute in its mission to uphold the dignity, safety, and prosperity of our people.”

Adeleke added that the Afenifere youth leader was receiving urgent medical attention, while praising Ojajuni’s resilience in the face of adversity, describing it as “a testament to the unbreakable spirit of our people.”
