Atiku officially joins ADC

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has officially joined the African Democratic Congress, ADC, the coalition-backed party he is expected to align with ahead of the 2027 elections.

Atiku made the announcement on Monday, through his X handle, posting a photo of himself holding his ADC membership card with the brief caption, “It’s official.”

His move follows his July resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which had been mired in a prolonged internal crisis.

The move has formalised his association with the coalition party, which he had previously endorsed in July as a platform for opposition figures, including Peter Obi and Babachir Lawal, to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027. Before now, Atiku and other opposition leaders had delayed their formal registration with the ADC.

Recall that the opposition unveiled ADC as a platform ahead of the 2027 general election with former Senate President David Mark as the National Chairman and ex-Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola as the party’s National Secretary as well as former Sports Minister, Bolaji Abdullahi as the National Publicity Secretary.
