Coming 2 America: Eddie Murphy’s new sequel gets March release date

The sequel to Eddie Murphy’s Coming 2 America will be released by Prime Video on March 12, 2021.

The film was initially scheduled to be theatrically released by Paramount Pictures on August 7, 2020, but was pushed back to December 18, 2020, before the COVID-19 pandemic began.

After the release of the film’s trailer, the new preview brings the action first to New York and then the fictional country of Zamunda, where Murphy’s character of King Akeem faces a potential military coup led by general Izzie played by Wesley Snipes. In order to stop the takeover, King Akeem and his confidante Semmi venture back to America to find the king’s long-lost male heir.

“Set in the lush and royal country of Zamunda, newly crowned King Akeem and his trusted confidante Semmi played by Arsenio Hall embark on an all-new hilarious adventure that has them traversing the globe from their great African nation to the borough of New York — where it all began.

The American comedy film directed by Craig Brewer, from a screenplay by Kenya Barris, Barry W. Blaustein, and David Sheffield, and a story by Blaustein, Sheffield, and Justin Kanew, is based on characters created by Eddie Murphy.
