Court adjourns Obasa’s challenge suit to March 17

Justice Yetunde Pinheiro of the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja has adjourned the hearing of a suit filed by reinstated Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, to March 17, 2025.

Obasa, who was removed from office on January 13, 2025, over allegations of fraud, abuse of office, and misconduct by 35 lawmakers, is challenging his ouster.

The respondents in the suit include members of the Lagos Assembly and former Speaker, Mojisola Meranda.

At Monday’s proceedings, counsel for the House of Assembly, Femi Falana (SAN), sought an adjournment, citing newly filed affidavits from Obasa’s legal team.

Meranda’s counsel, Tayo Oyetibo (SAN), also requested time to respond to serious fraud allegations contained in the new filings.

Justice Pinheiro ruled that all pending applications, including those on injunctions and jurisdiction, will be heard together on March 17.

She directed all parties to file and exchange their legal processes before the next hearing.

Obasa was reinstated following the intervention of Lagos APC leaders, but his refusal to withdraw the suit indicates lingering tensions within the Assembly.
