Davido hails Tems’ Grammy win as netizens kick against omission of Seyi Sodimu in acceptance speech

Grammy nominee and BET winner, Davido has expressed pride in Tems’ Grammy win saying, ‘we are proud of you.”

Reacting on X on Monday, Davido expressed pride in Tems with his tweet which also congratulated American music star, Chris Brown. “Congratulations to my one and only! @chrisbrown! And to the Queen @temsbaby we are proud of you,” the tweet read.

The Grammy win marks Tems’ second in two years.

Tems’ song ‘Love Me Jeje’ triumphed over ‘Tomorrow’ by Yemi Alade, ‘MMS’ by Asake and Wizkid, ‘Sensational’ by Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay and ‘Higher’ by Burna Boy.

The track, which samples Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 classic of the same title, has earned widespread acclaim since its release in April 2023.

However, Tems omission of Seyi Sodimu in her Grammy appreciation speech has caused a stir on social media.

Tems has come under fire after her omission of Seyi Sodimu during her acceptance speech at the ceremony.

The 29-year-old singer faced criticism from fans and critics online for failing to recognise Sodimu at the global event.

During her acceptance speech at the Crypto.com Arena, Tems dedicated her win to her mother, ahead of her birthday and her management team as well as stylist saying, “Wow, dear God. Thank you so much for putting me on this stage and bringing me this team.”

“Tomorrow is my mum’s birthday, and this is her first Grammy. I just want to thank you, ma, because she has really done a lot for me and my brother. Happy birthday, mum,” Tems continued.

She concluded her acceptance speech saying, “To God be the glory. Honestly, He has changed my life so much.”

Tem’s acceptance speech was greeted with backlash on social media, with many questioning why she failed to acknowledge Seyi Sodimu.
