Fire guts Central Bank of Nigeria building in Benue

Business activities at Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Makurdi branch, situated near Squadron 13 Mobile Unit of the Nigeria  Police Force, Makurdi, were disrupted, following an outbreak of fire that engulfed the building.

An eye witness account had it that the inferno started at about 7:45 am when some staff resumed for work, and on notice, men of the Federal Fire Service arrived the scene and quickly put out the fire.

The cause of the outbreak is yet to be ascertained, but an eye witness who gave his name as Pius, attributed the inferno as starting from the power section of the Bank, which he said is an old power plant that causes a lot of noise.

The outbreak which is said to be ‘minor’, was learnt did not escalate to the main building, but staffers on duty were seen hanging around the bank premises as the main gate was blocked by security operatives to prevent an eventuality.

Efforts to get the Branch Businesses Controller failed as he could not be reached just as some of the staff declined to speak on the incident.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Benue State Command, SP Sewuese Anene, could not be reached for confirmation as her mobile lines were not going through.
