I’ve heard frightening stories of postpartum depression from women – Rihanna

Barbadian singer, Robyn Rihanna Fenty, professionally known as Rihanna, has revealed that she has heard frightening stories about postpartum depression.

The singer’s pregnancy for Asap Rocky became public knowledge in January, about eight months after the rapper confirmed that they are in a relationship.

In a recent Vogue feature, she stated that she does not know what to expect when she puts to bed.

“I’m praying my body allows me to breastfeed. Postpartum depression, will I feel out of control emotionally? Those are the stories I hear from other women that scares me.”

She questioned the society imposed norm of getting married before childbirth. She revealed that she has always thought that marriage would come before pregnancy.

“I have always thought it would be marriage first, then a baby, but who the fu*k says it has to be that way. I’m certainly not gonna let that get in my way of being a mum.”

On her ideal place of childbirth, she said “Rocky asked me recently if I had a dream place, where would it be? I told him home, Barbados. I always imagine it being that way. But realistically, it wouldn’t be.”

Earlier in February, Rihanna pulled off a grand entrance to a fashion event in Milan, with her pregnancy bump in full display.

On staying fashionable and publicly exposing her bump despite being heavily pregnant, the singer said, “I’m hoping we are able to redefine what is considered ‘decent’ for pregnant women.

“My body is doing incredible things right now and I’m not going to be ashamed of that. This time you should feel celebrated because why should you be hiding your pregnancy?

“Balance is one of my biggest challenges and always has been. And now, there is another human being coming into play, it changes what that means again. Still, I have businesses that aren’t going to run themselves.”
