5 things to know about the N500M lawsuit against Kizz Daniel
Kizz Daniel’s former label, G Worldwide has slammed him with another lawsuit totaling N500 million.
In a matter filed by originating summons G Worlwide, the Flyboy Entertainment boss has been called to question over some intellectual issues.
Here are five things you need to know about the lawsuit against Kizz Daniel.
1. Top lawyer is representing G Worldwide
According to court papers, G Worldwide’s counsel is a top lawyer, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN). Agbakoba is one of the prominent lawyers in Nigeria and he strives to win all and any case in his chambers. He is currently standing for G Worldwide against Kizz Daniel before a High Court sitting in Lagos.
2. G Worldwide insists Kizz Daniel breached contract
The record label is seeks legal redress for breach of recording contract against Kizz Daniel and infringement of its intellectual property rights by the ‘Fvck You’ singer.
3. G Worldwide opts for arbitration court
When the matter appeared before the High Court on Monday, October 7, 2019, G Worldwide prayed the court for a stay of proceedings so it can settle the matter via the alternative dispute resolution method, arbitration – a stipulation of the contract signed between both parties.
4. G Worldwide seeks N500 million from Kizz Daniel
In another prayer before the court was for an amendment of originating processes. Kizz Daniel’s former label also seeks N200,000,000 in general damages and N179,499,957.00 in special damages for breach of contract and N150, 000, 000 for contract exit fees, among other reliefs.
5. History of the battle between Kizz Daniel and G Worldwide
Between 2016 and 2017, Kizz Daniel was embroiled in a contractual dispute with G Worldwide. He expressed his desire to breach the terms of his contract and exit the label without fulfilling the terms of his contract. As a result of the dispute, the label got an injunction which prevented Kizz Daniel from performing throughout the festive period of December 2017. It also led to him changing his name from ‘Kiss’ to ‘Kizz.’ G Worldwide has trademarked the name, ‘Kiss.’ While on G Worldwide, he released his critically acclaimed and commercially successful Headies-winning 2016 debut album, New Era.
The matter has since been adjourned till January 21, 2020 to hear the G Worldwide’s application.
