Lagos State govt distributes food items to vulnerable & pregnant women in Health District IV

As part of measures to cushion the effect of the current food inflation in the economy, the Lagos State Government has distributed various food items to vulnerable Pregnant women in Health District IV.

The distribution, which is courtesy of the Lagos State government, through the Office of Political Legislative and Civic Engagement and in conjunction with Health District IV, took place recently at the Akerele Primary Health Care Centre, during a Mother, Infant and Child Development (MICHD) programme.

Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Legislative and Political Affairs, Dr. Tajudeen Afolabi, stated that Sanwo-Olu cares not just in words, but that the programme bears eloquent testimony to that Statement.

The Special Adviser, who was represented by Dr. Omotayo Babatunde, a Director in the Office, reiterated that the Lagos State Government remains committed to the welfare of pregnant women, infants and children alongside other vulnerable groups and will not leave any stone unturned to better their lives.

The Permanent Secretary of Health District IV, Dr. Abimbola Bowale, noted that the programme has not just put smiles on the faces of many mothers and happiness in the hearts of many affected beneficiaries but has also lifted the spirits of expectant mothers in District IV Health Community.

Reacting, one of the beneficiaries said, “I want to appreciate the Lagos State Government for what they have done for us. They have been taking care of us; They made childbearing so easy. If not because of the economy, I won’t mind giving birth yearly because of this kind of good gesture”.

Beneficiaries went home with rice, beans, eggs, semovita, milo, milk, oats, palm oil, and many other food items.
