Deputy speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, has reaffirmed her commitment to the youth development.
Meranda pledged to continue to advocate for policies that foster a supportive environment where Nigerian youth can grow, lead, and contribute meaningfully to national development – aligned with the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Lagos Assembly Deputy Speaker made this known at a landmark symposium by the the National Youth Council of Nigeria.
At the event, Meranda was officially named a patron of the Lagos State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria.
The honour came at the symposium, which was held on Saturday, April 12, at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
The event with the theme, ‘Youth in Governance: Building a foundation for sustainable development,’ brought together key stakeholders in youth development, governance, and civic engagement to discuss pathways for enhanced youth participation in leadership and nation building.
The symposium was graced by dignitaries including Ambassador Sukubo Saraigbe Sukubo, President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Moremi Ojudu, senior special assistant to the president on community engagement (south west), the chairman of NYCN Lagos Chapter, Mobolaji Ogunlende, and several members of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
In her remarks, Meranda expressed deep appreciaion for the recognition, describing it as a call to further action in championing youth-oriented policies.
“A heartfelt thank you for the privilege of being named a patron of this great council. I do not take it for granted,” she said.
Meranda highklighted the exceptional quality of discussions at the event and lauded the intelligence, energy, and drive of the Nigerian youth.
“It was truly inspiring to witness the passion, intelligence, and determination of our young people. The quality of conversations, depth of knowledge, and shared committment to better governance filled me with renewed hope and confidence in Nigeria’s future,” she said.
She also commended the Ministry of Youth and Social Development and the NYCN at both the national and state levels for organising what she described as a ‘stellar initiative.’
