Nigerian Cadet wins top award at UK Air Force College

Officer Cadet YB Usman of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna has won the ‘British Aerospace System Award’ at the Royal Air Force College, Cranwell, United Kingdom (UK).

“The successful completion of the course and the feat achieved by Cadet Usman, reflects the high training standards and international exposure afforded to outstanding NDA cadets,” the academy’s Public Relations Officer, Maj. Reuben Kovangiya said in a statement.

Kovangiya said Usman, from the 72 Regular Course, completed the Modular Training Course 38, designed to prepare officer cadets for leadership and operational roles in the Air Force.

The graduation parade included a march past, awards presentation, a speech by Reviewing Officer Air Marshal Allan Marshall, exchange of souvenirs, and a church thanksgiving service.

“A major highlight of the ceremony was the outstanding performance of Pilot Officer YB Usman, who received the prestigious British Aerospace Systems Trophy,” Kovangiya said.

“The award is presented to the RAF or international cadet who attains the highest marks in professional studies during the course. The achievement underscored the newly commissioned officer’s academic excellence and professional competence.”

The event was attended by Brig.-Gen. T Ahmed, representing NDA Commandant Maj.-Gen. Oluyemi Olatoye; the Deputy Defence Attaché (Air) at the Nigerian High Commission London, Grp. Capt. MS Wakil; and the Assistant Academy’s Adjutant Squad. Leader KO Ettah.

Kovangiya said Usman’s achievement highlighted the partnership between Nigeria and the UK in military training and the academy’s commitment to producing globally competitive officers.
