While the Top Lists reflect what Nigeria watched collectively, the platform is introducing YouTube Recap, its most personalised year-end feature yet, to celebrate every individual’s unique viewing habits. YouTube Recap generates a fun, shareable story detailing user-specific information, such as top-watched channels and most explored topics. The feature also introduces a new “Personality Type” card, which assigns users one of 14 fun personas, like the “Sunshiner” or the “Adventurer”, based on their viewing patterns. Users can also discover if they are a “top fan,” qualifying as one of the top 25 percent of viewers for their favourite creators.
Users can access their YouTube Recap by opening the YouTube app and looking for the dedicated banner on their homepage.
Addy Awofisayo, Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, YouTube, commented on the announcement, saying, “Nigeria’s creative energy is undeniable, and this year’s lists prove that the nation’s artistes and storytellers are creating content that resonates globally. From chart-topping music to must-watch Nollywood dramas, we’re proud that YouTube is the place where this talent can shine. With the new YouTube Recap feature, we’re excited to give every user a fun, personal way to celebrate the videos that made their own year special.”
