One killed as gunmen abduct six family members in Kogi

Suspected kidnappers have abducted six family members in a farm at Lagbeta community in Kogi Local Government Area of Kogi State.

ALL NEWS reports that the Labgeta community is located along the Abuja-Lokoja Highway.

A relation of the victims, Ishaya Bulus, said the incident happened on Wednesday morning at about 10am when the victims were harvesting seeds in the farm.

He said one of the victims, Ayuba, was shot dead by the kidnappers after he attempted to escape.

“They were busy harvesting beniseed when the kidnappers suddenly appeared and rounded them up at gunpoint. And it was while they were moving the victims into the forest that one of them attempted to escape and the kidnappers shot him”, he said, adding that the remains of the deceased have been deposited in the mortuary.

Bulus said the family was yet to establish contact with the kidnappers.

A vigilante member in Koton Karfe, who preferred anonymity, confirmed the incident, adding that efforts are ongoing to rescue the victims.
