Osimhen puts Nigeria back on race for World Cup qualification

Victor Osimhen has put Nigeria back in the race for the World Cup qualification.

The Super Eagles secured a crucial 2-0 victory over Rwanda on Friday, March 21, 2025, to boost their FIFA World Cup qualification campaign.

Osimhen opened the scoring line in the 11th minute and doubled the lead just before halftime, giving Nigeria a comfortable advantage at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

The match marked the first game under new head coach Éric Chelle, the Franco-Malian tactician tasked with guiding the Super Eagles back to the global stage.

The formation adopted by Chelle: 1-4-4-2, allowed the Super Eagles of Nigeria enough room to attack and peg the Amavubi (The Wasps) of Rwanda.

The Rwandan national team and the Super Eagles had ended their last two matches in Kigali in draws.
