The Kano Police Command says it intercepted a vehicle loaded with sophisticated improvised-explosive devices (IEDs).

Spokesperson of the Command, Abdullahi Kiyawa, in a statement, said the vehicle was coming from Jigawa state when it was intercepted.

Kiyawa said Sama’ila Dikko, police commissioner in the state, immediately launched a “crack team comprising Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD)– Chemical, Biological Radiological and Nuclear Defence (EOD-CBRN) and Operation Puff Adder” when an intelligence report was made to the command.

“Following a hot chase, the suspects abandoned the Motor Vehicle at Bubbugaje Quarters Kumbotso LGA Kano State.”

Kiyawa said upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered it was “fully loaded with improvised explosive device materials.”

He said weapons including two AK-47 rifles, four AK-47 magazines, 1,098 live ammunition and two pistol magazines were recovered.

Kiyawa said an investigation has been launched into the incident, adding that the suspects would be apprehended.
