Protest breaks out on Epe-Ijebu-Ode Expressway over new tollgate charges

Angry residents on Saturday morning, blocked the Ijebu-Ode–Mojoda–Epe Road to protest new tollgate charges introduced by the Ogun State Government.

The protesters used tires and wooden planks to barricade the ever-busy dual carriageway, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.

The protest, which erupted along the Fari Expressway stretched and extended towards Mojoda in Epe, Lagos, disrupting traffic flow.

The protesters were seen chanting solidarity songs with placards.

Speaking to one of the trailer drivers, he lamented that exorbitant toll gate collection was killing their business.

“I paid N3000 just this early morning. How much are we making that they want to collect everything from us?,” The trailer driver said.

Another commercial driver said, “I am traveling but I will stay here and join them to protest.

“They have to stop embezzling money from the poor citizens of Nigeria who are struggling to survive,” Mr Odinaka said.
