Stop apologising for meeting Osinbajo – Aisha Yesufu urge Taaooma

Aisha Yesufu, co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) movement, has urged Instagram comedian, Apaokagi Adedoyin Maryam better known as Taaooma should not have apologised for meeting vice-president Yemi Osinbajo.

Recall that Taooma was among a delegation of skit makers who visited the vice-president under the umbrella of the Nigeria Skits Industry Awards (NSIA) at the presidential villa on Wednesday.

This development had sparked reactions on social media as many Nigerians called out the skit makers that went on the visit.

Amid the intense criticism trailing the issue, Taaooma, took to her social media handle to apologise for agreeing to be a part of the delegation.

“Hey guys, I’m apologising once again. I had clear intentions and nothing more,” she had written.

Reacting, in a Twitter post, Aisha stated the comedienne did nothing wrong to warrant her earlier apology.

According to the activist, what matters was the intention of those who visited the vice-president as there are several ways to advocate for good governance.

“Dear @_Taaooma. You do not need to apologise to anyone! You did not do anything wrong by having a meeting with the VP. There are different ways of achieving something,” she wrote.

“It is never one way and it is okay whatever way one chooses. Intentions are what count and you know yours!

“Remember the Prophet (SAW) said Actions are judged according to intentions and that is all that matters. Your intentions are what should matter to you. What people think or say must never matter. What we feel alone with our thoughts is what should matter the most.”

Aisha stated that people should stop “fighting themselves” over issues concerning the involvement in democratic process and rather think about how to improve the system.

“Have you ever seen politicians fighting themselves when any of them associate with you? Stop majoring in the minor! Focus on the work ahead. Get 50% youth into the legislative arm of government and begin to call the shots!” she added.
