Tinubu hails Lagos for hosting Africa’s first E1 electric powerboat race

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to clean energy and marine innovation as Lagos marked a historic moment on Friday by hosting Africa’s maiden E1 electric powerboat race.

In a goodwill message released by Lagos State’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the President applauded Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and event sponsors for their efforts in bringing the prestigious global championship to Nigeria.

He described the occasion as a landmark achievement in the country’s pursuit of sustainable energy and marine development.

Tinubu noted that Lagos had joined elite global cities, including Monaco, London, Jeddah, and Venice, as hosts of the E1 Championship, positioning itself as a leader on the continent.

“This championship is not merely a thrilling spectacle on water but a statement of intent,” he said.

“The E1 Powerboat Series blends world-class entertainment with clean energy innovation, showcasing electric-powered vessels that signal the path to a greener and more sustainable future.”

The President linked the event to his administration’s broader vision for the blue economy, reiterating the federal government’s resolve to leverage renewable energy, marine tourism, and coastal infrastructure for economic growth.

“By investing in our coastal infrastructure, marine tourism, and renewable energy, we create jobs, open new opportunities for youth, and strengthen Nigeria’s place in the global community,” Tinubu stated.

Describing himself as a “proud Lagosian,” the President highlighted Lagos’ cultural vibrancy and economic significance, emphasizing that the state’s waterways and people make it the ideal host.

“Lagos, the cultural capital of Nigeria, the heartbeat of our economy, and a symbol of our resilience, is the perfect host. Its vibrant waterways and dynamic people embody the spirit of competition, creativity, and hospitality,” he said.
