Showmax original, ‘Wura’ will return for a new seaon just as the streaming platform is wounding down its operations across the world.

Recently, MultiChoice, a CANAL+ company, announced that the titles which defined Showmax will continue to be available to audiences on DStv Stream from April 1, 2026. According to the company, a dedicated Showmax section within the platform will bring together a curated selection of the service’s most acclaimed originals and fan-favourite titles.

In the same vein, Executive Head of Content and Channels, West Africa, MultiChoice, Atinuke Babatunde, has disclosed that the decision to make Wura Season 4 available across Africa Magic Showcase and Africa Magic Family was driven by the company’s commitment to making premium content accessible across both DStv and GOtv platforms.

Babatunde made this known at a virtual press chat where MultiChoice, alongside the Wura cast and crew, including Scarlet Gomez, Yomi Fash Lanso, and Musa Jeffery David, discussed key details about the upcoming season.

“At MultiChoice our priority is always very clear: to consistently deliver premium content across our channels with storytelling that reflects the richness of our culture and resonates with our audiences,” she said. She added that while Season 4 was initially intended exclusively for Africa Magic Showcase, the decision was made to open it up. “We said, you know what, why not open it to everybody, because premium content should be viewed and enjoyed by everybody.”

Head Writer Musa Jeffery David pointed to both audience reception and the depth of the show’s source material as key factors behind the continuation. “Wura is an adaptation of the six-season South African telenovela The River, meaning there is considerable narrative ground still to be explored. This season introduces new layers, including political themes that reflect everyday realities,” he said.

Season 4 will see lead actress Scarlet Gomez bring a more vulnerable yet intense side to her character as the series leans further into themes of power, leadership, and justice.
