Yoruba’s history is fulfilled with my emergence as president, says Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has said that the history of the Yoruba race would not have been completed had he failed in the 2023 presidential election.

The President made the remarks on Sunday, July 20 in Ogun state at the 8th day fidaus ceremony for the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.

Tinubu said the traditional ruler had blessed him and urged him to run for the 2023 presidential election, assuring him of victory.

He added, “Our history would not have been completed carefully and richly if I had failed in the last election. I was successful because of your support and the blessing of the late Awujale.”

Adetona, a longtime friend of former President Muhammadu Buhari, died on Sunday at the age of 91.

The monarch passed away just hours after the death of former President Buhari was announced.

Adetona was one of the longest-serving monarchs, having been on the throne for 64 years. He ascended the throne on April 2, 1960. His friendship with the former Nigerian president and Head of State dated back to the 1980s.
