BREAKING: Buhari orders FEC members vying for office in 2023 to resign

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered all members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) vying for any elective office in 2023 General elections, to submit their letters of resignation on or before Monday, May 16, 2022.

The Minister of information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, disclosed this on Wednesday, during the Federal Executive Council meeting.

He said that the directive excludes the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, because he is an elected member of the cabinet.

The Information Minister affirmed that if there are any amendments or additions to this directive, they would be made shortly.

According to the Minister, the directive might involve political appointees, if the need arises.

The minister of state for petroleum, Timipre Sylva, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajuiba, the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, among others, are by this directive expected to resign their ministerial positions, since they have already picked up their expression of interest and nomination forms for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Also affected is the Minister of Women Affairs,  Pauline Tallen, who is running for Senate.
