Actress Lola Idije clarifies misconceptions about her on screen personality

Veteran Nollywood actress, Toyin Afolayan, popularly known as Lola Idije, has addressed long-standing misconceptions about her personality, clarifying that her on-screen roles do not reflect her true character.

Speaking in an interview with actress Ayo Adesanya, Lola Idije, who is often cast as a tough mother-in-law in Yoruba films, explained that her strong performances are simply a product of her craft and not an indication of who she is in real life.

“I am not wicked in reality. My faith in God guides me, and I live a modest lifestyle. I don’t indulge in drinking, smoking, or other habits people often associate with movie characters,” she said.

The actress also revealed that her disciplined approach to acting was influenced by her late ‘brother’, Adeyemi Afolayan, popularly known as Ade Love, one of Nollywood’s pioneers.

Lola Idije rose to fame in 1995 after her role as Madam Adisa in the movie Deadly Affair, which earned her widespread recognition.

Beyond her acting, she has contributed to Nigerian pop culture by coining popular catchphrases such as “Soro Soke Werey” and “Pele My Dear,” which have since gone viral across social media platforms.
