Alaafin of Oyo says K1 should not prostrate for kings without honour

Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi has said the newly installed Mayegun of Yorubaland, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal will not prostrate for kings without honour.

During the installation on Monday, January 13, Alaafin said the musician should accord deserving honour and respect to kings because they are the custodians of culture but ignore those that are not worthy of honour.

Accord deserving honour and respect to kings; they are custodians of culture. But some kings are not worthy of honour and respect.

“He understands the culture and I am not saying that he should disrespect the culture. But kings who go about clubbing and drinking do not deserve any respect.

“I did not mean that Wasiu will not respect our culture after being installed. He will honour our kings but will not prostrate before kings who are ignoble. A king should not be drinking (alcohol) at clubs and in public places, and a king should not smoke,” Alaafin stressed.

Reacting to his installation, the Fuji maestro says he understands the responsibility he has been saddled with and he intends to go about working for the unity and interest of the people of Yorubaland.
