Chief Alex Akinyele is dead

Ex-Minister, Chief Alexander Akinyele has passed away after what was described as a brief illness.

Akinyele’s son, Constantine Akinfolarin Akinyele, confirmed the ex-Minister for Information’s death in a statement, Tribune reports.

Akinyele passed on at the age of 81.

Akinyele is notable for his gianstride in the Sports Ministry, where he administered under General Ibrahim Babaginda Badamosi’s military regime.

In 1995, former Nigeria’s military head of state, Sani Abacha, appointed Akinyele as head of a National Reconciliation Committee with the objective of opening dialogue with interest groups in the country to support the democratic transition program of the government.
