The King of Ikate kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, has warned politicians against blackmail or soiling his name and image over their misfortunes at the All Progressive Congress primaries.

In a statement by Temitope Oyefeso, the Special Assistant to Oba Elegushi on Public Affairs, the monarch noted that politicians, who were rejected by their own people should not pin their misfortune and failure at the primaries on him or his throne.

The statement further reiterated that Oba Elegushi remains a father to all and welcomes all players in the political space to his palace, regardless of their political affiliation.

This reaction is coming following Hon Noheem Babatunde Adams’s loss at the APC primaries over the week. Adams, a politician representing the Eti-Osa I constituency, Eti-Osa local government area in the Lagos State House of Assembly lost and heaped the reason on the monarch.

The attention of the Palace of His Royal Majesty, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, has been drawn to a media campaign orchestrated to blackmail the traditional ruler over the failure of some politicians to secure the ticket of their party to contest in the next general elections.

Ordinarily, we won’t have glorified this with any response, but it is appropriate to reiterate the apolitical stance of the palace and the throne and reject in its entirety this cheap blackmail by politicians who were rejected by their own party.

Oba Saheed Elegushi remains a father to all and welcomes all players in the political space to his palace, regardless of their political affiliation.

Ironically, it is on record that even at a time the immediate younger brother of the traditional ruler yielded to the call of the people and contested for election, Oba Elegushi did not hesitate to ask his brother to step down when the leadership of the party prevailed upon him to do so.

Oba Elegushi remains committed to the peace and development of Eti-osa and Lagos State and will continue to extend his full support to whoever is elected by the people, regardless of faith, tribe, or political party.

We urge politicians to explore all appropriate means to sell their candidacy to the people and to desist from dragging the traditional institution into politics.

We won’t hesitate to seek legal redress if this is not complied with.
