I would rather die than deny Jesus – Spyro

Nigerian singer Spyro, whose real name is Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, has shared how his commitment to his faith shaped his career.

In a recent statement, Spyro revealed that he stood his ground against team members who urged him to drop his “Jesus Boy” brand and remove “Christ Ambassador” from his profile, believing it limited his appeal.

According to Spyro, he left his record label in 2019 to start his own venture, funding it with bank and personal loans without any external financial support.

When team members suggested changing his brand, Spyro declared, “I would rather die than remove Jesus from my profile.”

He also turned down a suggestion to replace it with “Child of God,” insisting that his faith would create opportunities for him.

“I remember saying I would rather die than remove Jesus from my profile.

“Even though I understood where they were coming from—they felt like associating with Jesus limits me and doesn’t look lucrative—when they saw I wasn’t going to back down, someone suggested I at least change it to ‘Child of God,’ which to him is a broader term.

“I said no again and told them the Jesus that I proclaim will make a way for me,” Spyro wrote.

Recently, one of his teammates called to express pride in Spyro’s success, noting that many artists are struggling with no deals or shows, but Spyro is in a good place.

Spyro’s commitment to his faith has seemingly paid off, with his music career flourishing despite initial doubts from his team.

His hit singles, such as “Billing” and “Who is Your Guy?”, have gained significant popularity, topping Apple Music charts in various African countries.
