The Lagos Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF), in partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies, is now open for applications from young people aged 15 to 24 to lead projects that will drive climate action, promote sustainability, and build a more resilient Lagos.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the call for proposals, inviting youth across the state to seize the opportunity to demonstrate that meaningful climate action starts locally.

The YCAF is a global initiative that provides technical assistance and funding to cities to engage young people in designing, implementing, and governing urgent climate solutions . Lagos is one of over 90 cities across five continents participating in the initiative, which aims to empower tens of thousands of youth worldwide.

The fund is designed to support youth-led and youth-serving organizations in implementing projects that address key climate priorities such as waste management, green spaces, renewable energy, and sustainable transportation . Successful applicants can receive microgrants to support community workshops, educational campaigns, and environmental restoration projects. The program aims to foster leadership, collaboration, and long-term integration of youth engagement into city climate planning .

Wahab noted that the initiative is part of the broader Lagos Youth Climate Campaign, a collaboration with C40 Cities launched under the State’s Climate Action Plan . He emphasized that youths bring fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and boundless energy that are critical for driving climate action. The campaign previously engaged social media influencer Maryam Apaokagi (Taaooma) as a Climate Ambassador and has expanded to include a “Lagos Has Talents” Climate Edition, talent-based environmental advocacy and education .

To support interested applicants, the State Government is hosting a pre-launch webinar to provide detailed information on the application process and project requirements.
