Lagos State Government takes action to ahead of flooding

The Lagos State government has undertaken a dredging operation in response to flooding threats.

The state government has begun dredging operations in the Ikorodu area, targeting the primary channel in Awobo Estate.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Drainage Maintenance Department of the state Ministry of Environment, marks a significant step towards averting potential disaster and ensuring the safety of residents in the region.

The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, made this known in a post on X on Sunday.

Wahab wrote, “Operatives of the Drainage Maintenance Department from @LasgMOE today (Sunday) continued with the cleaning/de-flooding, maintenance dredging and evacuation of silts from Awobo Estate Primary Channel, Igbogbo, Ikorodu, to prevent flooding in the axis.”

A downpour on Sunday already rendered many Lagos areas flooded with motorists manoeuvering on the roads in places like Ogba, Iyana Iba, and others.

Last October, flash floods caused by rainfall affected traffic along the Ikorodu Road.

Our correspondent observed flood on both sides of the road affecting traffic from Onipanu Bus Stop. At the Obanikoro Bus Stop area, some vehicles were stuck in the flood while others parked waiting for the flood to subside.

Also, around the same period, some residents of 4th Avenue, Rofo community, off Femi Atewolara Street in Ikorodu lamented poor drainage in the area which had led to a deep and wide cut on the road.
