Matawalle stops salaries of absentee civil servants

Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, has directed his commissioner of Finance to stop monthly salary and allowances of absentee civil servants until they are cleared by the commissioners or permanent secretaries of their ministries.

The development, as learnt followed poor attitude to work by the State’s civil servants.

Matawalle, who spoke during a meeting with his aides, explained that the political appointees and other State Government officials were not striving hard to salvage the civil service from collapse.

“The commissioner of finance has been directed to stop the monthly salary and allowances of absentee civil servants until they are cleared by the commissioners or permanent secretaries of their ministries”, he added.

He told his aides that as Government appointees, they were representatives of the State government, hence they should redouble efforts to assist the government to achieve its set objectives.

The Governor warned political office holders to always be closer to their people and wondered why political appointees were shying away from their immediate communities.
