Shehu Sani gets bail over alleged bribery charges
Ex-Senator Shehu Sani has been freed over allegations of bribery charges leveled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC after a petition.
According to a report by The Punch, Sani regained his freedom after spending four weeks in EFCC’s custody.
In December 2019, Sani was arrested and detained for alleged extortion and bribery after a petition.
Sani was released on Thursday, January 30, after perfecting his bail conditions. On Monday, January 27, Justice Inyan Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja granted the ex-Senator bail in the sum of N10m.
The anti-graft agency arrested Sani for failing to honour several invitations over allegations that he extorted $24,000 from the Chairman of ASD Motors, Alhaji Sani Dauda.
The agency alleged that Sani extorted the money from Dauda to shield him from an ongoing criminal investigation.
Sani has consistently maintained his innocence. He was charged with two counts, bordering on advance fee fraud and bribery with the intention to bribe the EFCC chairman.
