Wizkid: Nigeria is the source of my magic
Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun aka Wizkid has opened up on the source of his music mastery saying, Nigeria is the source.
“It’s very important for people to know where the source of my magic comes from. I’m African, I’m Nigerian; that’s my blood, that’s my DNA. So, it’s important for me to push [Yoruba] out there – let people know about my culture. I like to know about everyone else’s culture, their way of life, and this is mine.”
He also explained why he named his sixth studio album after his late mother, Mrs Morayo Balogun.
In a recent chat with Esquire, the father of four said paid his utmost respect to his late mother with his upcoming album.
“I’ve named it my mum’s name,” he says – his mother’s name being ‘Morayo’, a Yoruba word that means ‘I see joy’.
Recently Wizkid stunned fans when he referred to Don Jazzy as an amazing human being, hence, laying an alleged rift with Don Jazzy to rest.
Earlier in the year, social media was sent agog after Wizkid referred to Don Jazzy as an influencer while replying to an alleged diss comment from Mavin Records signee Ladipoe.
