GTB suffers as angry customers vandalise proper over alleged extortion

Customers of the Guaranty Trust Bank in Osogbo, the capital of Osun state, threw caution to the wind as they vandalised some of the bank’s properties.

The occurrence became an ugly scene when angry customers, on Wednesday, June 16, 2020, threw caution to the wind in expressing their displeasure over some staff disposition.

It was gathered the fight started between the security officers stationed at the bank premises and some customers who came to transact with GTBank opposite Osogbo Township Stadium.

According to an eyewitness report, the trouble started when customers complained of extortion from the security officers. The customers alleged that the security men were demanding between N500 to N1000 from customers before allowing them entry into the banking hall.

Narrating how the incident occurred, the eyewitness said the aggrieved customers confronted the security officer over extortion but they were resisted violently by the officer which aggravated issues.

Fight ensued and glasses in the banking hall were broken.

A source disclosed that normalcy was restored at the bank premises after police officers whisked bank officers away.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Yemisi Opalola confirmed the incident.
