Dana Air arrests fraudster after losing N16m to fake deal
A 40-year old man, Friday Egheyemi, has been arrested in Lagos State for allegedly swindling Dana Airline to the tune of N16m under the false pretence of shipping their aircraft engine abroad but bolted away with their money.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Muritala Mohammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos.
According to Police sources, the suspect, Egheyemi, was contacted as a shipping agent to ship the engine to United States America for undisclosed purposes.
They agreed on the cost of shipping the engine to America and the money was transferred to Egheyemi’s Access Bank account with number 3513060678 through a company, Globefile Logistic Limited to ship the engine.
However, the suspect, Egheyemi, did not ship the engine rather he went and forged DHL documents and sent to Dana Airline showing that he had shipped the engine but it was discovered that it was forged and he did not ship the engine.
The matter was reported to the Police at Airport Command. The Police operatives then trailed Egheyemi, later arrested and detained him at the Command for interrogation over his conduct.
During interrogation, he reportedly admitted to have not shipped the engine as agreed and he forged documents to deceive Dana Airline that he had shipped the engine.
aving been found culpable, the Police then charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for fraud.
He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Kenrich Nomayo, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Fajana, granted him bail and ordered his remand in the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till August 26, 2022, for mention.
