Cause of popular musician, Ozzy Osbourne’s death revealed

Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary heavy metal musician and reality TV personality, died of a heart attack, according to a death certificate filed in London.

The document, submitted by his daughter Aimée Osbourne, lists the cause of death as cardiac arrest and coronary artery disease. It also notes that he had been living with Parkinson’s disease. His occupation is recorded as “Songwriter, Performer and Rock Legend.”

The certificate details the official causes as: “(a) Out of hospital cardiac arrest (b) Acute myocardial infarction (c) Coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease with autonomic dysfunction (Joint Causes).” The New York Times obtained the document on Tuesday.

On July 22—the day Osbourne passed away—an air ambulance was dispatched to his home near the village of Chalfont St. Giles in Buckinghamshire, England.

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Air Ambulance said in an email that their team had been “dispatched to provide advanced critical care at an incident near Chalfont St. Giles on July 22,” though no further details were provided.

Flight tracking data from Flightradar24 showed that the helicopter flew about eight miles to Harefield Hospital in Uxbridge, a London suburb. A Flightradar24 spokesman said the aircraft remained there for “about an hour” with its engines running.

When Osbourne’s family first announced his death on July 22, they did not disclose the cause. The 76-year-old had battled multiple health issues in recent years, including a variant of Parkinson’s and spinal damage. In a radio interview earlier this year, he revealed he could no longer walk.

Fears about his declining health had grown earlier this year after his wife, Sharon Osbourne, said he would be performing what was expected to be his final show.

That farewell concert, titled “Back to the Beginning,” was held on July 5 at a soccer stadium in Birmingham—just minutes from Osbourne’s childhood home.

During the event, Osbourne performed two short sets: one as a solo artist and another with Black Sabbath, the iconic band he co-founded in 1968.

He acknowledged his health struggles during the performance.

“I’ve been laid up for six years,” he told the cheering crowd. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

As the frontman of Black Sabbath, Osbourne was widely regarded as a pioneer of heavy metal. Bands such as Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax have all credited him as a major influence.

In the 2000s, he found renewed fame through “The Osbournes,” an MTV reality show that aired from 2002 to 2005 and humorously chronicled his family’s day-to-day life.

On July 30, thousands of fans gathered in Birmingham for a public funeral procession. His coffin was carried through the city in a hearse ahead of a private ceremony.
