APGA throws support behind Tinubu’s administration

APGA praises Tinubu
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has reaffirmed its support for the administration of President Bola Tinubu to deepen democratic governance.

APGA Chairman, Sly Ezeokenwa, during an interactive session with journalists, on Thursday, March 5, 2026 in Lagos, insisted that the party’s alignment with the APC-led President Tinubu was driven by national interest.

He noted that the party leadership have also defended its position on electoral reforms, internal democracy and political cooperation.

Ezeokenwa emphasised that APGA remained committed to credible elections, transparent political processes and grassroots participation critical to national development.

“APGA’s support for the Tinubu-led administration was based on the belief that cooperation among political actors was necessary to stabilise the country and advance development.

“I have consistently emphasised constructive engagement with the government rather than antagonistic politics. APGA believes in constructive engagement with the government at the centre in the interest of national development.

“Our national leader has always emphasised that governance should not be about needless confrontation but about collaboration and we have chosen a path that supports stability and progress while remaining true to our party’s ideology.

“Our alignment with the Tinubu administration does not diminish our identity as a political party with its own structure and vision,” he said.

Ezeokenwa also spoke on Nigeria’s electoral system during the chat with the media while praising the reforms introduced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and clarifying misconceptions surrounding electronic transmission and collation of election results.

He explained that the current legal framework still prioritises manual collation of results, even though technological innovations have improved transparency in the process.

“The law currently provides for manual collation as the primary method; there is no full electronic collation under the existing electoral framework.

“The result transmitted to the IReV portal is different from what INEC collates, because collation is done using the physical copy taken to the collation centre.

“If an amendment is to be meaningful, it should clearly establish electronic collation rather than creating confusion about what currently exists.

“INEC already has a Collation Support and Result Verification System officer who helps ensure accuracy during collation,” Ezeokenwa said.
